Quick question here...

When the coach is plugged in to shore power, does this charge the starting batteries or just the house batteries?

Had a no start issue after being plugging in and not run for a month.

thanks!

On our Gulf Stream, shore power does not charge the Chassis Batteries. Every 1-2 months I put a multi-cycle charger on them for a few days.

I probably should just press the Chassis Battery disconnect button but have both the Chassis and Coach switches on.

I added a high quality float charger to my diesel start batteries on my 2007 Tour Master coach because it was driven only occasionally since it was a live aboard situation in an RV park near my out of state employer. My model coach does not have a factory means to charge the engine starting batteries from shore power -- and I don't know of any other models that do...

Thanks guys. Thats good to know. I found documentation of maintenance for the rig that shows the generator now charges the starting batteries or some kind of fix their of . I also have a solar package I'm going to install for the house batteries , but as far as the starting batteries I think I'm going to pull a 120 volt circuit into the starting battery compartment. From there, I will add a nice float charger to the batteries so they will charge when I am plugged in to shore power.

That should do it.

Thanks again

When the motorhome is in long storage when I'm not going to be around to start it, I run a set of jumper cables between my house batteries and engine batteries. Then they all stay charged. Had to rework a set of cables so the ends detach then they can fit through the hole in the battery compartment.

David Bott added a post in 2011 about the Trick-L-Start for charging the chassis batteries from shore power. I bought and installed one on my 2008 Tourmaster and it works great.

No, does not charge chassis/ engine, but it still has phantom load of computer memory, (and radio if you have upgraded it?) On mine, I usually run engine weekly, but can charge by flipping EMERGENCY START toggle for 4-24-hours

I keep my battery topped off with a battery solar charger tender

I'm thinking doing this.

What specific model/setup so you use?

Do you have that plugged directly to the batteries or cigarette lighter / accessory plug in the console and is the little solar panel outside or on the dash?

What is your chassis/starting battery config (two 12v in parallel)?

On my Gulf Stream only the house batteries are charged up when plugged into shore power.

I have it plugged into the accessory outlet and I have one 12v battery for the the chassie, if I need emergency start that comes from the coach batteries that are being charged thru my shore hookup. Solar charger in front window.

charges both sets of batteries in both directions, they say to use your jump start relay, but I added its own relay, so if it fails the jump start relay will still work

I have one of those B.I.R.D on my coach, but I don't think it is for charging both chassis and house batteries. When my batteries fall below I believe it is 11 volts, the AutoStart will start the generator and charge them up. It has happened twice since I bought the coach. Maybe the B.I.R.D is not connected since it has the AutoStart.
