Can I use a 30amp surge protector with an adapter connected to a 50amp service? Thanks.

If your RV or trailer is 30 amp then yes you can use your adaptor, but not 50 amp outlet, 30 amp protector to 50 amp load

Not sure what your last statement means.

The surge protector will only work properly if it is matched to the size of the outlet you are connecting to. As Mike & Becky state if your trailer expects a 30amp circuit use a 30amp surge protector to a 30 amp circuit .

I camp ground we are going to only has 50amp service. I was told I could use a 50 to 30 amp adapter.

A surge protector is different from a dog bone. The dog bone is just an adapter and can be 30 to 50 amp. A surge protector is used to ensure the camp power does not fry your trailer electrical devices should the AC exceed (surge) above the expected amount

Right. I may not be making sense with my question. I have the 50 to 30 amp dog bone and a 30 amp surge protector. Is it ok to use the dog bone plugged into the surge protector, and that plugged into the RV?

Ok yes that makes sense. When you place the 30 amp surge between your trailer and the power source that will be the “limiter” for maximum power. Should your trailer receive more than the 30 amp draw the surge protector will “trip” isolating your trailer from too much power (current). Some protectors have a reset button while others are fried and need to be replaced . I hope that helps explain this power isolator.

It all depends on your RV?
Is it a 30amp unit? Does it have a 30 amp cord?

Yes, 30amp RV.
