Hi, I have a 1995 Gulfstream Conquest, Class C. I had to purchase a new sewer hose, but my bumper is 1/4 inch too small! I can barely get the hose in and out, and am afraid I will tear the hose pulling it out. Same problem with the end caps.
Any ideas on finding a smaller diameter hose and end cap that will fit my old bumper?
Thanks! Kate

Hey Kate,

I just put a 5x5 Vinyl fence post on top of the stock bumper. I bought fence post caps that I plan to secure with bungee cords. Making the caps on both ends removable will allow me to rinse out the bumper a couple times a year at a local car wash or with a garden hose and a little soapy water. The post was $26 at Lowe’s the caps $6 at Home Depot.

Hi John, Thanks so much for the idea and the picture! How did you secure the vinyl post to the bumper? Kate

I drilled holes in both and used short carriage bolts (1/4”) and used fender washers. It would have been easier to drill holes through the top then use an extension and use self tapping screws with fender washers. Then use a rubber plug to plug the top holes…I just didn’t want to cut holes in the post.
I’ll be honest the way I did it was a PITA!! :D

Actually Kate you could use 3M Extreme Mounting tape to secure the post to the original bumper. Make sure both are CLEAN run the tape along the length of the bumper, mount the post add some weight along the length of the post to ensure a solid bond. You can also add long zip ties to add extra security if you want.

The white plastic fence post cover has worked well for us. Our Gulfstream does not have a defined bumper, just one big fiberglass piece on the rear cap. So we installed it under the rear overhand with nylon cable zip ties. It is still there after 3 years, so no problems. It is large enough to get the hose in with the plastic locking tabs attached. The 90 degree angle must be removed of course.

That just might work for me. I can't put it under or on top of the bumper, because there is hardware in the way. But I will look into fastening it under the RV itself. Thanks! Kate

SUSPICION that you are not aligning the TITS on the hose fittings into the CORNERS of the bumper; this is required to make the hose fit.

Further thought: Issue could also be RUST and a wire brush on a pole cleaning of bumper may help, or possibly bent/ twisted, dinged or dented?

I really like Camco sewer hose (https://www.rvhometown.com/best-rv-sewer-hose-kits/), but after prolonged exposure to the sun it starts to crack and leak at the bottom of the fittings. I had the longer version of it and it started leaking in numerous places where it was exposed to direct sun while the below deck part is fine. No problem is enough to keep me from making another purchase.
