We are constantly improving our motorhome. The latest thing is to add an awning to our slide out...not the topper but a retractable awning. We are putting it on the kitchen slide. Our plan is to add 2 steel plates for strength...one on the inside of the cabinet and the other on the outside of the slide. The weight of the awning is 70 pounds and extends 10 feet out.

We want to make sure we reinforce the area where it's secured to the slide. Any thoughts on the length of steel plates going across would be appreciated. Thanks Tigger & Pookie

hmmmm... they also make 'window' awning that are smaller and maybe more 'normal' for this application, though your idea does have merit, if you actually want much more 'sun shade' for the whole slide, and maybe even a 'patio cover' on that side of the coach.

yes, it will be heavy, and the wind moving it around might actually be the biggest concern, as far as making sure to properly provide a foundation for it to attach to. Can't say 'what' you should do, but a fair length of steel/metal on both sides would not hurt, though you might have to 'dress it up' to make it not stand out while traveling.
