Repair water stains in ceiling.

We had a leak in the bathroom of our BT 5230. Had the roof repaired but now there is an awful stain in the ceiling. Has anyone pained the ceiling? What have other people done to fix this problem.

Pretty bad stain, removed all the covers and taped the room. Went with an off white so it would match the yellowed covers.

The ceiling looks much better, pained walls a light grey,(tinted primer paint so it would adhere to the walls), subway tile behind the sink and some new towel racks, soap and toothbrush holder in brushed nickel. Much better.

Looks great....... We had similar stains on our ceiling from years of leakage (previous owner). I mixed up some warm water and a splash of 409 and dish soap in a spray bottle. I then sprayed the solution on the ceiling and used a utensil to gently massage the moistened stain. Then, I used a wet/dry shop vac and sucked the stain right out. Gone!....

I'll have to try that on some of the stains we developed in the main cabin after hurricane Florance.

I have had very good results on a variety of ceiling stains by using a fine mist of straight Clorox. Just dampen and let dry thoroughly. Sometimes it takes multiple applications, but will result in the stain eventually disappearing with no damage to the ceiling material.

I'll try that in a small out of the way spot first to make sure the ceiling doesn't discolor.

I see water dripping from under the range hood (right side corner) in my 5210 from a light snow. Any guess from where it would come from?

My 5230 is a 2003. The roof had gone through so many storms that there were multiple points of separation around the entire edge and around some of the vents. I was surprised how far water travels before you see the stain. We had it resealed, no more leaks.

You’re scaring me with the stories of roof leaks. We had our own over the weekend. On our 2021 5210 we had removed the entertainment center ceiling to insulate and add more storage. We had several days of rain and found water linking from the fiberglass fairing marker lights. Easy fix but we were blessed to have this happen with the ceiling open. Something to check.

That stain pictured at the low edge of the ceiling and adjacent to the skylight sure looks to be related to the roof leaking. Did you see any staining on the vent framing when you had the trim piece off?


Periodic maintenance of the RV roof calls for inspection and re-sealing as needed on a regular basis, every two years or so...
