Trying to mount a backup camera onto the back of my Vintage Cruiser. Removed the rubber flap from the camera mounting bracket and exposed two white wires crimped to the black camera power plug wire, and one red wire crimped to the red camera power plug wire.

The power plug will not work with the camera I have, so I cut the crimps off and removed the camera plug.

Using a three-port wago wire connector, I connected the two white wires to the black (-) wire of the camera. I connected the red camera wire (+) to the red wire from the camper.

Turned everything on and have no signal.

OK, now to sound stupid: I assume the long white light above the camera light is a backup light, but it doesn't light up when I put the TV in reverse. It does, however, light up red when I turn the headlights on.

So I'm stumped.

Suggestions?

Most tow vehicles do not supply backup light voltage to the 7-pin connector on the vehicle. That is something you have to wire yourself.

So camera does not work when Headlights ON? I find that more convenient anyway

The cameras are designed to use parking light power to power them up. SO you have to have your parking lights on to use your backup camera. And yes, RV's use white for the ground (negative) wire.
