I think it's determined by draw straw depth. Mine seems to want 3/8 of a tank, not 1/4, to run.....

I also thought it was the passenger side tank, but am not sure. The engine draws from there.

Unless at 5am your batteries were completely toasted by the furnace to the point the generator wouldn't stay running without the switch held or a booster pack on the house batteries....... doh!

What Jeff said, its the engine block heater. Really helps the engine light off like it's summer when plugged in. Its helpful when the temperatures get anywhere close to freezing.
