There will be no diff cover or gasket to replace its not quite like a 4wd. It is just a plug located in the diff remove the plug and oil should be right at the level or put your finger in the hole and it should be no more then your first knuckle down.
Now you would be correct on smaller vehicles like my h2, or say Ford or Chevy.
But as you mentioned the seal is very simple to replace..
