Well maybe you’ve resolved I’m seeing your post late but you can drill a hole into the upper part of your awning mechanism and run a cotter type pin through it and that will secure it. If you like messing on you tube for stuff let me make a suggestion on a YouTube site, it’s called “rv street” he is extremely good and has some great hands on tips. He is a little different but aren’t we all. His idea is to teach us how to fix and maintain our rv’s. He did what I suggested and shows it in great detail. Hope this might help in your endeavors.
