Default Gaskets for storage compartments

Couple of different options, depending on your handiness quotient.

1. Fabricate your own gaskets fromstrips of rubber matting and a good adhesive.
2. Use the self-sticky weatherstripping open cell foam strips from ace hardware/home depot etc.
3. Check a marine supply place for similar items.
4. Check JC Whitneys online for rubber gaskets, to see if they can match the design on your existing gasket.

Are these the gaskets that fit inside of the compartment frame to seal the door, or gaskets to seal the frame to the side of the rig? On most RV's that I've seen, they use a butyl based putty to seal the compartment frames themselves, but nothing says you couldn't make a better gasket from the above items to seal the entire compartment - RV makers go with what is most cost effective, not necessarily what is the *best*.

If you decide to use the butyl putty tape (RV places carry it) a handy trick is to put the roll in the freezer before you put it on. Makes it a bit less sticky, which is nice if you want to have the option to move the stuff a bit before you are finished.
