Why?
They are all made that way. For safety reasons and, in most states, it is law. I don't care how focused you are, if something interesting comes on the TV, you're going to look at it and be distracted.

I know here in Pennsylvania the law states that "No monitor shall be visible from the driver's seat in any vehilce." They choose to not enforce that law when it comes to GPS.
