Supernova muffler install
So I finally committed to installing the new Magnaflow quiet series 4 inch flow thru muffler.
List of parts needed
Muffler ( I choose the Magnaflow , I didn't want it loud)
3 - 4 inch lap joint SS clamps
1 - 3.5 inch lap joint clamp
1 - 4 to 3.5 inch reducer
1 - 4 inch cat delete pipe for a 98 Dodge Cummings
1 - 6 inch long piece if 1/8" x 1.5" flat galv. steel
Tools needed:
Sawzall with 7" long bimetal blade
15 mm deep socket and ratchet
Flat and round file to clean up cuts
I measured everything ten times then was confident it would work so I cut the old muffler out leaving enough pipe on each end just incase I would ever want to reinstall it. Then a couple trial fits and trims and it all came together. I used the galv. steel as a hanger for the muffler. I drilled a hole in each end so it could attach to the clamp on the front of the muffler then I attached it to the factory hanger. Now that I know it works and what to get I would say it can be done in about 1.5 hours by yourself.
The doesn't seem any louder at idle or rpm when reving it up in the garage. I have not had a chance to test run it on the road yet for performance. If nothing else I'm just happy helping the engine breath better. I'll see how it does next week on our trip.

I forgot to mention I cut both expanded ends off the cat delete pipe so the one end went into the muffler and the other end in the 4 to 3.5" reducer.

Hello bhplumer
Have you had a chance to try out your new exhaust, and if so what do you think? I have been thinking of upgrading the exhaust as well so thank you for the detailed list of items.

Slim, I think it was worth the money and time. I wouldn't say I got a noticable amount of power our of it but like the egr delete it just seems to let the engine pull the coach easier. I know that sounds odd but I can really cruz the black hills of SD, up and down at speed without having to feel like I'm pushing the engine.

With your EGR deleted, are you getting a check engine light or a code at all?
Did you do the full delete with the tube that has the scoop removed that diverts to the EGR? Or just plug both ends of the cooler?

Did the full delete... just pull the EGR out ... put the Block off plate over the opening & leave the EGR Valve plugged in / Zip tie it out of the way. No ECL or Codes... as the computer still thinks it functions. I couldn't find a programmer to over ride / cancel the EGR valve

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Sometimes on the 6.0 trucks there will be a CEL until it’s warmed up, so I was curious.
Thanks!

Yes...however nobody seems to make a Programmer for the 365.... so the next best thing was just pull the EGR Valve & leave it plugged in. I have had no issue doing this

Yeah, unfortunately nobody seems to want to mess with them. I’m trying to get someone to commit to trying to tune the FICM. I believe the hyper max Mach 7 tunes might have just been FICM tuning and not pcm.
If I can find someone willing to give it a whirl I’ll let you know.

I used this one. It’s identical to the city diesel and other 4” mufflers I’ve been installing on diesel trucks for years. ~75$.

How was interior sound with performance muffler? I just purchased a Supernova, I use to have a 6.0 F350 and didnt mind the louder muffler on the pickup.

There was really no difference for interior sound from the driver seat. I’ve never rode in the coach part so I don’t know if there was a difference back there. Outside difference was very minimal. I’ve ran performance exhaust on diesel ford’s also and it’s not anywhere near as loud as they were.
