If the 2020 5240 has bypass valves for water heater where would they be located

In most cases, those valves are located right behind the water heater where the lines connect. Might have to remove a panel to access.

Mine is located under the dinette bench on the same side as the water heater. Remove the cushion and then the wood platform, it might be underneath like mine.

In my old 99-class-c, the Valve is in the outside compartment w/ the FWT, PUMP and Low point Drains

On our GS motorhome, the bypass valves are attached to the rear of the water heater and have a blue hard plastic tag that indicates proper direction for bypass or normal water heater flow.

Seems unlikely that the bypass setting would have anything to do with the water heater staying on. However, if in the bypass setting, you’ll likely burn up the electric element. Needs water to absorb the heat.

Like some of the other responses, the bypass valves on our GS Motorhome are attached to the back of the water heater. There is a blue plastic tag attached which tells which direction to turn valve for bypass. The tank must be filled with water before gas or electric is turned on. Otherwise the max heat sensor trips and shuts down the flame. Our water heater is at the end of the line for gas, so it takes several starts and stops to ignite and stay on when the gas has been shut off at the tank for a period of time.

My 1999 class-c has fill, water tank, PUMP and WH bypass (single handle 3-port valve) in outside storage bay on Driver side (in line w/ Kitchen); your rig may vary
