Default 2012 Visa ERD

At last, the wait is over! I picked up our new trailer today. Somehow, I got a 2012 instead of a 2011, it appears there was a guy who could not wait so he ended up with the one that was supposed to be mine ( the dealer knew I was not in a big hurry)and I got the newer one. To be honest, I can't tell if there is a difference between the 2 model years. I have to install my weight distribution hitch and sway bar, install my tv and put all our stuff inside and we leave Saturday morning for the maiden voyage.

We have a 2009 16ft Scamp and are thinking of trading for a Visa 19 ERD. I just found this site today so am a new member with a lot of questions. What are the pro and cons that I should look at prior to purchase? The sales person is to come by tomorrow with the purchase figures. He was stating price around $18,000, does this sound in the ball park? One thing we noticed there is no flat ware drawer, any thing else we need to look for?

Thank you
Marvin

Hi...we just got our Visa 19ERD last Thursday....loving it already. We considered a Scamp but after seeing on in person and realizing how tight it felt space wise we looked at other alternatives...almost bought a MPG...didn't like the bed set up and then after seeing the Visa we fell in love with the space...especially the walk around bed a full bathrooms they have. We also noticed there were no drawers and decided that was no big deal we bought a utensil baskets that you use for picnics and put our flatware in that and put in the cabinet....going to work just fine. Pricing wise we got ours which is a 2011 for less than $18,000 so plan on dickering...lol. So far we are loving everything about it and going to take it out next weekend for the first time. Good luck with your decision.

We're back for our first week-end with the Visa: Really love the trailer! I noticed a few thing: I'm 6-1 and my feets are sticking out from the end of the bed (I knew this when I bought the trailer) I need to order the cover to go over the stove, there's no surface big enough to put my oven/toaster,BUT the order is only valid in the US and I'm in Canada and finally I'll be able to test my dealer's service departement: the power outlet for the microwave has stopped working. I plugged the microwave in another outlet with an extension cord and it works. And it worked before we left on Friday, probably something minor. We had a PUP last summer and there's a world of difference between the 2 trailers: 2 things I really love, the ducted heating system (yeah it was cold where we were!) and my favorite: hot water on demand!!!

Toppers RV here in the Houston TX area have the 19 ft models for $16,495. We paid $17,995 for our 23RBK sometime in March, $550 less than one of the discount places in Ohio, plus I did not have to go to Ohio to pick it up.

Look at you power converter panel. If a fuse is blown, the red LED for that circuit should light up.

Try the parts dept at www.pplmotorhomes.com. They have the covers in the $40-50 range. They should be able to ship it to you.

I checked the fuses and the breakers: everything looks good. You have no idea how it itches me to check it myself, you see I'm an auto-mechanic and also a handy man around the house and I usually don't let people work on my stuff when I can do it myself but since it should be under warranty, I'll leave it alone. I'll check the link you gave me for the stove cover, thanks.

I called my dealer and they asked me to check a specific breaker, so, using my voltmeter I found that I had voltage. Called them back and they said,ok, bring us the trailer. So tonight, I hooked the trailer to the truck, got it ready to go tomorow and I decided to remove the pots and other stuf in the cupboard only to find that I never plugged the damn thing back this week end: of course (murphy's law) now the microwave works and I don't know if it was a breaker or something else... I'll call the dealer tomorow and cancel the appointement.

Glad you got it figured out! Though the initial lack of power is still a stumper, huh?

Yes it is. The question remains: was it a breaker or a loose connection? If all goes well, we should go camping again in about a week, I'll check it then. A question to fellow owners: did your trailer come with vent covers? I have 2 vents on mine and I have the cheap vent covers: I can't open the traps more than a third of what they can. I bought a Maxxair 850 for the bathroom vent (yet to be intalled) and I'll get a regular Maxxair for the bedroom vent soon. I'm wondering if my dealer intalled the cheap vent covers or Gulfstream.

I was thinking about the problem with your microwave and remember this from another post somewhere, but it seems sometimes they forget to remove the plastic on the back of the micro when they install it. The microwave will run for awhile but then stops because it overheats, this causes some internal heat sensor to turn the power off. After it cools off the thermo switch resets and you have power again. Use the microwave again and the same cycle occurs. I think the only way to check is to remove the microwave and see if plastic is blocking the air intake.

I did remove the microwave and there is nothing that's been forgotten. I haven't used it yet, when it's powered, you see the clock on the display and that's how I noticed it didn't work. Before we leave for another trip I'll make sure it works properly. The source of the problem could be related to the fact that I drove for 3 hours, and the roads here are very rough so it's possible that with the vibration, something came loose. In any case, I'll check that situation closely.

I finally was able to get the folding cover for the cooktop: I found it on Ebay! So, instead of 4 to 6 weeks, I'll get it in about 10 days.

Just got back from our second trip and I'm happy to report that everything went fine, even the microwave! When we got to the campground I thought: here we go again, the microwave didn't work, then the fridge only worked on gas so I went outside to check further and it turned out that the 30 amp outlet didn't work. I plugged it in the 15 amp outlet and ''voila'': everything works.

Default 2012 Visa

I was reading that a person should use a tester to be sure the electrical hook up in the camp grounds are wired correctly. Does anyone carry a electrical tester to see if the electrical is wired correctly and if so what kind do you use.

Thanks

I usually have a small voltmeter with me, no specific brand. I don't always use it, only when something is not working.
