That appears to be a vacuum pump -- maybe for the windshield wipers??? This style was used on Fords -- is your RV on a Ford chassis?

So...does this little vacuum pump run when the wipers are in operation??

No it does not. Runs when I start the engine, I do not know how long it runs, but I can hear and when I go look at its running.

I see in your picture that the pump has a small spherical storage tank so it is reasonable that the pump will run a lot but should shut off sometime. Maybe the hoses have some small leaks...

If you unplug the cable into the pump, it will not run at any time, correct? Under those conditions do the wipers now not run as they should???

I will try and disconnect one of the wires and see if the wipers will turn on. Yes, it is connected to the small black ball you are referring to.

I figured it out. It is a vacuum pump for the dash heat/air selector switch for which area you want it to blow, face, feet, etc. Thanks

And thank you for closing the loop and letting us know what it actually was there for!! I guess the little bit of vacuum needed for these air duct diverters is hard to come by in a vehicle with a turbo diesel at the far end, so a local vacuum pump makes sense...
