Default Power gear jack problem

I have a 2004 Sun Voyager and all of a sudden one of the jacks is dropping down while the mh is in storage. Can any one help. I don't know where to look. It is a manual system.

Darby,

I have the manual on the system used in my 2007 TourMaster which may be similar -- it does not show anything in the troubleshooting section on your symptom. There is a section on one or more jacks not holding pressure -- if you level the coach using this offending jack does it stay firm over time? If the jack droops down on its own and won't hold any weight, there must be a leak (or air getting into the system) somewhere.

PM me with your e-mail and I can send you some info...

Chuck

It levels ok and holds after I level it. I have only noticed it dropping down after it has been in storage with the jacks up for several weeks. To day when I pulled from pad to drive way I noticed it tearing the grass up. This is the second time I have noticed it. I am just scared it will go down when I am traveling a long way and tear something up. I cycled it several times to day. It acts as if a valve is leaking somewhere internally. I see no leaks in the system at all.

Darby,

Does the jack control panel show that a jack is not retracted when that one is sagged down? My panel will sound an alarm if the jacks are down and you put the coach in gear...and the panel has a LED that shows when any jack is not all the way up.

Because I live in my coach near my out of state job, and don't move it more than 4 to 6 times a year -- I have made a habit of retracting the jacks each time I start the engine -- even if I think they are already up. It does not sound like your jack is moving fast enough to be a concern while driving if you retract each time you begin to drive before you put it into gear...but I would still get it fixed if I were having such a behavior.

If you can't find the leak, a less expensive fix might be to put a retract spring on it to keep it in up position.

I have checked the jacks on the motor home for the last two days and now for some reason all is normal. Maybe there was a small piece of dirt that go in the valve and it has now flushed out. But the jack is not dropping when it sets now. So I will keep my eye on it.

Well I thought the jack had repaired itself but it is still dropping a little. Over the period of a week it has dropped about 4 inches. I see no leak whatever anywhere in the power jack system. So before I start throwing money at something I am going to wait until it gets bad enough to make sure you are fixing the correct item.
I did order a new starter for the MH, I was surprised at how small the new one is. I am used to much larger starters. I was employed as a auto mechanic all my working years, so this little starter sure startled me.

Well it was the jack itself bypassing on the inside. I had the jack removed and I took it to a hydrolic shop and they rebuilt it. Works great now. Cost to rebuild was $160.00

Darby,

Glad to hear you got it fully resolved -- and thanks for posting back with the solution that worked for you and the root cause, as it may help other owners when/if they come upon this thread as they search for answers to their own leveler issues...
