Default Brake Controller on the SN 6400

Looking into pulling a car trailer behind the 6400. Any advice/experience with installing a brake control unit (ie Prodigy) for a trailer with electric brakes? Where does the controller connect for brake signal? On my pickup it was easy and used an interface cable that had its own connection point for brake signal.

I don't know myself yet, but I'm interested what gets discussed, as I may be installing one on my new rig next month.

I have a Prodigy installed on mine. I will have to look how the dealer installed today. I do know they had to run another wire from the front to the rear. I have to take a look undre the dash and see, i'll repost my finds.

BillynChrispa, please also post pics of where you mounted your Prodigy in the cockpit! I'd really like to see.

Some additional pics. Red, blue black and white wires are attached from under the dash. Will look in the back and see if wires were pulled or were existing.

Looks like there was a existing harness run from the front to the back. I had an exisiting plug aready on the back, but had to install a controller. The blue wire, I would suspect is the hot wire for charging the battery. I am currently towing a 14,000 pound car hauler, since I already had the trailer, until I buy a tow dolly.

Let me know if you need anything else and I will try to answer. Since I did not install, I cannot answer all the questions right of the bat. Any how good luck. Currently we are camping in Pennstate for my sons' graduation on Saturday.

Confirmed that the blue wire, which is the brake control wire is not connected at ends at the wire bundle junction at the frame extension. Also the black wire ends there so the RV is factory wired for lights but not brake signal or +12V for battery on trailer. WIll have to ask GS or dealer for advice on where to tap into brake wire under dash and +12V to complete the 7 pin connector....thanks again for the advice/help.

I posted that i have a 81 jeep that i flat tow, but i am having problems with it swerving all over. Are you going to tow dolly for ease of pulling or why?? Im asking because i have to but a trailer or a dolly, I have other uses for the trailer. I would think the dolly might be a lot easier?? Need some input please.

Brian, I am not sure what Craig is going to be using, but I pull my Ford Hybrid Fusion with the trailer. It is a lot heavier than the tow dolly and much more difficult to move around especially if you get a tight spot at the campground. The dolly can be moved around by hand when disconnected which is great. I had the car trailer that I use for moving construction equipment around, so I figured I would use it instead of spending money to buy a dolly right now. I do in the future; I plan on buying a dolly. Right now, the wife complains already about the four trailers I know have.

I would think a tow dolly is just fine and could eliminate the swaying problem. The one benefit of a trailer would be that there's no wear and tear on the toad. I am thinking of going with a trailer just because I'm going to purchase one for other reasons but I can also use it for this purpose as well.
