Default Ameri-Lite 198BH -- Storage help

Looking to add some extra storage and would like to know if anyone has ever cut into the highlighted box under the cabinet.

This is located in the front, next to the queen bed.

Thanks!

Default Storage Help

Instead of looking for storage at this location, I suggest you to modify the small shelve above your bed. That's what I did and I didn't regret it.

What materials did you use? Looks like you matched the current cabinet very well. I've been thinking about doing this since it tends to get cluttered up there.

On our AmeriLite 21 the area you highlighted is a storage area with inside and outside access doors. The outside door has a lock.

I have not looked into that area, but in my 199DD I have added a few hanging baskets on the bathroom and wall above the bed (between the dinette and window) that add a lot of storage. I’ll find some pics if you are interested! I am always interested in what owners of similar smaller units have done! Chris

Did some exploring and it turns out to be wasted space. Cut an opening in it this weekend and just tapped into lots of storage.

Has anyone found a stain or the veneer that matches cabinets? I would like to make a door to cover the opening.

I just bought a 198BH and I was thinking of opening up this space.
Do you have any finished photos?
Does the flooring continue under there?
Did you put doors or shelves?

Thanks,
Chris

I just enclosed my son's AmeriLite 259BH underbed storage - didn't get the need for a 'pass thru' to an un-insulated 'storage' area... just built a simple 2x2 divider wall underneath the existing frame, added some 'insulated board' to the inside, and covered with some extra paneling, just to keep anything from accidentally punching thru the insulating board.

I like the idea, also, of using the lower side cabinets as additional storage, or interior shelves... that'll be my next project, as the rear of this area is basically 'lost' storage space from the outside, anyway.

Thanks for the idea! : )

(by the way, now that I think of it, you could easily add some pull-out drawers at the end of the bedframe... now, that's another storage idea for my list!)

here's some photos of the underbed 'separator' wall between it and the front storage area...

I really just built a simple 2x2 wood 'frame', added some 'insulated board', and added some extra paneling to help tweak the look, and provide some support in case anything were to accidentally try to penetrate the insulated board, which is very easy to puncture.

now, I need to get to work on those side cabinet lower 'cubbies' and also add some drawers at the foot of the bed.... : )

I pull this camper with my diesel pusher, so I should have to tools to take care of everything - probably just pick up some simple drawers, sliders, small framing wood, and some 1/2" plywood or similar boards for the cubbies.

This weekend I partitioned the underbed storage and made access from the front by the foot of the bed.
Not only does this act to support the bed better but it serves as my clothes storage.
I fit (2) 24"x17"x6" tuppers with enough room for a few pairs of shoes.
Now my wife can have the entire closet.

That's a good idea, and I've been working on my own rendition of storage for the 'under bed' unused area(I have a queen bed facing forward, so the whole bed lifts up for storage, and the front is 48" wide for these 'new' drawers), so I picked out these drawers to install underneath...

the idea is to really just install a simple wood 'frame' for it to slide in/out on...

I'll send photos when the 'project' is complete : )

and, I actually came across another several places for 'storage' drawers:

2 - on each side of the table booth seating, which are hollow inside
1 - under the entrance to the main lower bunk, which is basically storage from outside, but plenty of room for a sliding drawer from the inside.

Exclamation

I walked thru Home Depot this evening, and changed my mind when I saw these 'drawers', of all differing sizes - a great option to just have some 'storage'...
I cancelled my order of drawers, and bought two sizes of these instead...
they even some with dividers...

I was wondering if you have any photos of this space? I was going to tap into it as well and curious how it came out
