Default 2021 BT5245 battery disconnect

New motor home, the house battery goes dead after a couple days. Charged it up then cut off the house battery disconnect switch, same thing battery dead after a couple days. I disconnected the ground wire ant there is definitely a draw on the battery with the disconnect switch off. I hear a clicking sound coming from the generator when I touch the ground wire to the battery. I also found that the generator will start with the battery disconnect switch off. Any suggestions?

Some GENS start from chassis battery, assume you are talking coach? 1) If rig has a LPG SOLENDOID (visible back at tank?), some rigs WIRE it to BYPASS switch, and solenoid can be A HUGE LOAD), 2) but also possible NOT charging battery as much as you think, (often takes 4-to-24-hrs to charge to 100%) OR 3) battery aged/ failing? If you can bench charge overnight, and then LOAD TEST (auto store can test for free); 4) PO installed equipment MIGHT be on, as might hidden items like TRUNK/CARGO LIGHTS? Very geric answer, not knowing YOUR rig.

To accurately use battery voltage as charge INDICATOR, you have to remove charger and LOADS from battery for 30-minutes BEFORE CHECKING VOLTAGE to allow time for the FALSE HIGH SURFACE VOLTAGE to dissipate.

Cool

You need a new disconnect switch and a voltmeter to determine what large power drain is killing the battery. You could also have a bad battery that needs to be replaced for free.

On our GS motorhome, the house battery disconnect switch totally isolates the battery from the coach. This is a great feature in storage because it stops all of the "phantom-drain" from clocks, safety detectors, relays, and electronics.

If your disconnect switch is working correctly, you should not have any drain or any voltage at all on the house side of the switch. The clicking sound is a relay or solenoid when you touch ground. Our generator is hooked to the house battery, and when the disconnect switch is off, nothing happens with the generator. With the disconnect switch on, the generator has to have the ignition switch off before it will crank, even though it is NOT using the engine battery for cranking. That is the relay or solenoid clicking noise on ours. No idea why somebody at the factory thought you should NOT be able to start the gen when the engine ignition switch is on. The slideout is wired the same way but I can understand that wiring so you do not accidently hit the slideout switch when going down the highway.

Thanks for the responses, there is a wire on the battery for the generator and another one for the leveling system that are not controlled by the house disconnect. Both of these are draining the battery when not in use, so I installed a disconnect switch at the battery for these two items, problem solved. I left the house disconnect wired as it was.
Thanks

I had the same problem and I found that the house batteries that come from the Gulf Stream factory are junk. Replaced mine with an AGM and no problems since.

What AGM battery did you purchase?
