Default VIN Year 93 vs Model Year 94

Hello all,

I am VERY new to RVing and recently bought a n2m 1994 GS Conquest LimEd MH (to go full-time in 4 months after apt lease ends). But when I went to title it, the DMV was confused because the VIN number gives 1993 Ford chassis but the title from the previous owner says 1994. Is that typical of motorhomes?? To have a vin in one year and model in another??

Yes, it is typical for the chassis to carry a year older VIN compared to the coach body that was built on it... Don't sweat it.

Yes, very common, they buy cutaway chassis, sits in field until needed, then coach built. Mine a 99 chassis with 2000 Coach.

DMV should title it as a 1994. In the case of motorhomes, the motorhome builder sets the title year. Could be a couple years newer than the chassis. I had the same issue so sent an email to Gulf Stream. Within a day they sent a letter explaining and quoting the law.

I know the practice of the RV mfg. Not sure what the DMV will do. Vehicle insurance for mine was off the chassis VIN and hence the title was that same year. You can ask DVM what the law is for that state when the VINs are from different model years. Chuck answered a similar question about a large class A, that GS didn't even make a model the year that the chassis was built and VIN assigned. Officially the VIN is the chassis serial number, I don't think the coach builder can use the term VIN. They typically use the term Serial Number. But it is a common question because it does not follow logic.
