Default Aickar jumpstart battery fire 2006 VistaCruiserB

After we returned and went to bed, the Aickar jumpstart battery unit we carry for emergency dead engine battery starts exploded all by itself. Lithium batteries have a history of such fires. Unfortunately it was stored under the desk cabinet with other flammable stuff "handy". The overall fire generated massive heat plus smoke deposits all over the interior. The van is "totaled" as they say, because cleaning and rebuilding would cost more than buying a similar RV. We have yet to hear how much Allstate will cover. Luckily, this happened (perhaps at midnight) when we were not in it sleeping. (Vista Cruiser MB, not just B)

Sorry to hear about your loss, and fortunate no one was hurt.

Was the pack charging at the time? I don't entirely trust the lithium battery systems either, and never leave one unattended on charge.

Default Aickar jumpstart battery fire

Chuck: Thanks for the note. No, it was not on any charge. I do not recall the last time it was charged. It was just in its normal case, resting on the shelf. What it looked like is seen in the Youtube video review, a nice case to hold the unit and jumper cables, e
