Default x-fer switch

I have a 04 Atrium. I let it set for two days un-connected to shore power. I tried to start the main eng and genny and nothing. I was surprised and annoyed the batteries had drained that fast. Especially the chassis batteries. I thought they were separated from the house batteries? I was further annoyed when the inverter wouldn't charge the chassis batts. I hear about a x-fer switch that allows one to start the eng. from the house batts. I'd like to think I have one somewhere but don't know where to start looking and probably wouldn't know it if I did find it. Could someone please give me some guidance? Thanks.
