Re: 6400 gas tank
Your right (passenger side) tank is your engine fueling tank. The engine gets its required fuel from this tank. As fuel is used, sensors in the tank activate a crossover pump to transfer fuel from the left (drivers side) tank to replenish the main (right) tank. When you fuel at a truck stop, you will generally notice that the tanks are balanced pretty well. Each tank will take approximately the same volume of fuel. As you drive, you will see your fuel gauge drop and then, miraculously, refill. Something to entertain you on long trips!
The generator feeds, at least on mine, from the left (drivers) tank. I always make sure my left tank is full if I am going to be camping and using the generator for power. And yes, the generator feed pickup tubes are shorter on this tank so you will not run out of fuel while camping.
Since the right tank is predominant, I always fill it first and then the left tank if I am fueling alone. Most times, my wife and I share this duty. She fills the passenger side tank and I fill the drivers side while washing the windows, checking the oil, adding the fuel additive to both tanks, etc. etc. etc.
Good luck,
TxTC
