Default Clear coating

I noticed that my clear coat on top of the front cap is starting to peel off. Has anybody experieced that, and can a person solve that himself by buying a spray can of clear coat and spraying it on. Would a person have to sand it down with fine water sand paper before spraying the clear coat. I mean this is on the top, so it is not really where it is visibly seen from the front. Or am I going to have to take it to a paint shop. It is just a couple of small spots now, but I was concerned it might continue towards the front.

Ray I have noted the same on my unit and so far have not decided what to do. It is not visible unless you are up on top. One of these days I will probably sand and prep it and spray a new finish on the bad spots.

Yes, it is on the top. But I was getting a little concerned that it might keep going down. So I got on goggle and I bought some real good wax from the Wax Shop. Maybe that will stop it and protect the paint at the same time.

It started on the front cap, then spread all over my coach, but mostly on just two colors. The best explanation I got was from two different body shops. If the clear is not sprayed shortly after the color, then it does not bond well. They assumed that since there were 5 colors on my coach that they waited until the last color was shot before clearing the entire coach.

The two that peeled were probably the first two colors applied.

Of course, Mikes Custom Paint (Factory paint contractor) denied any problems. This summer, I saw an exact duplicate of my coach (same year, model and color pattern). Guess what? Same clear coat peeling on same colors in the same places.

Mike's graciously offered to repaint my coach at a discount of just $10,000!

If you're good with a spray gun, try it. I would sand first to ensure a good bond.

I got up a ladder the other day and looked at the problem with the clear coat, and it seems in a couple of spots that the clear coat is not just peeling, but it is like bubbled up. Maybe the sun gets too hot out here in the deserts of Las Vegas and Southern California where I spend a lot of time. I applied the wax that I was talking about. It naturally didn't remove the bubbling, but maybe it will stop any further damage. Two spots on top about twelve inches in length. So I will keep on eye on it to see what happens this summer.

Ray

Here are a couple of items I've been considering for my coach. If anyone else has tried these, please share your thoughts.

This is PoliGlow, from an ad in Good Sams Highways magazine.
http://www.poliglow-int.com/

This one discussed PoliGlow vs Red Max Pro floor finish
http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f56/ ... 004-2.html

If you google either, you'll find many discussions on using these and buffing and waxing
