Smile What did you do to your camper today?

This Forum is definitely smaller than some but I thought it would be good to have a thread regarding:

MODIFICATIONS WE’VE DONE TO OUR CAMPERS. Things that we’ve done that the factory should have done or things that we came up with to make it work better for our individual needs.

We all like pictures so post them up too.

I recently purchased a 2008 Gulfstream Innsbruck Ultra lite. I added 2-30# propane tanks but wanted them separated, 1 on each side. I welded in new tank brackets for each tank. I centered the batteries with a new box, wiring and ventilation hose/vent. I also put in expanded steel grating on the bottom of the storage area. I also cleaned up the wiring, centrally located the primary fuses and added a battery kill switch to completely isolate the batteries from the camper.

I put new tires on it too, I went from 205/75/15 Load C to 225/75/15 Load E. The camper follows great with absolutely no sway.

Here’s some pictures:

I don’t know what to think...

Default Solar Installation

I decided on Renogy’s Premium 200W kit with MPPT controller. I’m still buttoning up the installation, the weather turned but everything is running.

The panels are 100W Premium Monocrystalline, the 20A MPPT Controller is Bluetooth compatible and able to handle up to 400W or 2 more panels. I’m running dual 6V Duracell batteries. I used a hole saw to cut through the roof, and used butyl tape under weatherproof cable cover. I’m going to secure the cables on the roof with Eternalbond tape when the weather dries.

The Controller has to be powered up BEFORE hooking up the panels and disconnected from the panels before disconnecting the batteries. I opted to add switches for the panels and the batteries to make that process easier.

Hi John, I've never noticed this thread until now. I'll contribute. The first change I would like to show is that I changed out the galley sink faucet from the low and rigid old school style to a higher home version with a spray stream button and flexible pull out sprayer. Soooo much better!

Next, I also had to change out the bathroom sink faucet. Once again the new one is taller to make it easier to wash up, and it looks so much better than the original.

My 2005 model year unit came with a old 19 inch CRT television built into the front cabinetry. I wanted more. I removed the heavy tube unit. I added a cheap moving blanket up in the nose cap to add a barrier to the insulation. A couple of strips of oak span the opening and are screwed in. I used a MORryde TV1-021H articulating extending tilt and swivel television mount, bolted to the oak. It is a 43 inch widescreen Roku television. I also mounted a Yamaha sound bar underneath. What an upgraded viewing experience!

Started with the frame extensions to mount a foldable rack on the back. I used 2 separate pieces of 1/4” angle iron and a piece of female receiver. These were welded together then mounted to the frame of the camper. The rack will be removable and foldable when complete. The pictures give you a taste of what the mock up looks like...

Well, I finished the rack on my 5er last week. It folds up, is completely removable. I also added a receiver to the frame so I can flat tow my Jeep behind it. Here’s a couple pictures.

I added a 40 gallon fresh water tank to it. It sits in front of the front axle so the majority of the weight will be pin weight. I ran the 1/2” Pex through 3/4” plastic electrical conduit to protect and provide some insulation.

Made a sink cover out of scrap pallets, need to make a stove cover too and in the process of reinforcing the dinette seats and adding struts to make them a little less awkward to open and close. Also upgraded from a single 20 lbs propane tank to a double 20s with an auto change over. Also turned the head on the power jack stand, which makes it so we can now open the liftgate of our SUV with the trailer attached, wasn’t enough clearance previously. I’ll post more pics when I have finished. I’m still new to all this.

Hi Larry
I need to swap out my original faucet on my 2003 BT Cruiser 5211 i bought this past summer. Anything special i need to be aware of in putting in a home style faucet?

I did the same thing last summer, it’s pretty straightforward.

I removed the 15’ power cord with a Smart Plug. I cut the cord off leaving 30” in the camper and wired the Smart Plug to the pigtail on the camper. I mounted the plug to a piece of expanded PVC then mounted that on the camper.
The Smart Plug cord is 30 amp twist lock so that fits the generator perfectly BUT it leaves 2 potential issues.
1) Unless I want add a 30 amp twist lock outlet to the house I needed a way to plug the camper into a 15 amp outlet.
2) Although I never camp at Campground ‘s, I also needed a way to be able to plug the shore power in to a 30 amp RV outlet if needed.

So I used 5’ of the cord I cut off the camper and made a pigtail adapter for the 30 amp twist lock to 15 amp house plug (yellow plugs)
I was going to use the rest of the cord I cut off to make another pigtail for the 30 amp twist lock to the 30 and RV male plug (green plug) but I actually found an adapter on Amazon for cheaper than I can buy the 30 amp L5 plug from Lowe’s.

Added a CAMCO propane tee between the propane tank and regulator on my BT5210 for outside grille hookup.
