Default older gulfstream 1987 sun vista

I was given a 34 foot 87 sun vista with a chevy 454. Only has 25,000 original mileage. My wife and I took it for a twop test camping trip. Everything worked fine, and actually ran very good. Had been setting for a year. we drove it approxomitly 160 miles and ran beautiful. got off the interstate and it started acting like it was running out of gas. I filled it up, and started home. after about 5 miles, started acting like that again. I was able to drive it home, about 25 miles, but I am wondering what would cause that? Has a new fuel pump in it, would it do that all of a sudden after running perfect with a bad distributor cap? any suggestions on what to check, or try is very appreciated.

Default sun vista fuel problem

Check your in-line fuel filter.

Hi Steve,
I had the same problem with another brand rv, and yes, I changed the fuel filter, but I also insulated the entire fuel line under the coach. A lot of the older models(at least that I have owned) sometimes have a problem with vapor lock from the fuel lines becoming too hot under the coach. Just a suggestion. Mine would run great, then act starved for fuel, and die. After insulating the fuel line, no more problems.

You might want to check your fuel lines. Those older chassis with 454 engines had some of the line that was rubber hose. Those hoses would get cracks on them and it would start sucking air into the line. It will act like it is running out of fuel. Fuel filters is another thing you have to watch.

Hey guys, I know I am resurrecting an old thread but I just got a 1987 Sun Vista with the same Chevy 454 as mentioned in this post. Looking to see where I can go to find any manuals or diagrams. I dont even have an owners manual and Gulf Stream has nothing that old.

Thanks
