Default True Dry Weight of a Visa 19 RSD, ERD or RGU

Has anyone taken their Visa 19RSD, ERD or RGU to a scale to see if the weight of the camper matches that of the spec sheet? We recently saw an RSD that had a dry weight in excess of 3500 lbs! I understand that they are going to weigh a little more than what the brochures say, but by over 600 lbs?! That's crazy.

I have weighed my 2011 Visa ERD several times on commercial scales. The weight on the trailer axle has been between 3200# and 3400#. My hitch load is about 400# putting my trailer at 3600# to 3800#. The trailer was loaded as we normally use it for travelling. The water and sewer tanks were empty.

The factory dry weight is confusing to say the least. It's the weight of the trailer without options (a/c, awning and microwave are options)all tanks are empty, including the propane and no battery. When you factor in all these thing and when you put your stuff in it, it's easy to understand why the weight is close to 3500 pounds. My dry weight is 2762 and when delivered it was close to 3100 pounds.

This is exactly why I was baffled to see UVW at 3500+ lbs! I can understand the A/C, awning, battery, etc. tacking on a few hundred pounds. 3100# on delivery is respectable, but not 3500!

I ran our 2012 Visa 19ERD through a scale but I don't have the hitch weight. It was a 3 axle scale and I was using a weight distributing hitch coupled to the 2006 Toyota Van.

Front axle 2520 (drive axle)
Rear Axle 2780
Trailer Axle 3040

The front water tank was full the other tanks empty. We have roof mounted a/c, awning, water heater, gas heat, dual propane tanks, single deep cycle battery. We had folding chairs and the usual assortment of camping gear, wheel chocks, jack 12v air compressor, hoses, electric cords, tools, etc.

Assuming my tongue weight is about normal 300 - 400 lbs then we are 3300 to 3400lbs in camping mode.

Update;

Just ran my 19ERD through the weigh station again this time with WDH on the Trailblazer.

Steering axle 2600
Drive Axle 2760
Trailer Axle 3220

Somehow I gained 240lbs even though the trailer is loaded almost the same. We added a tongue box that weighs about 15 lbs, a 26" TV of maybe 10lbs. no other added gear.

Like last time, waste tanks empty, nearly full water tank.

Also FYI, The Toyota Van tows the 19ERD better than the Trailblazer. I removed the WDH from the Trailblazer and it tows better without it. With it, every bounce was magnified. The Toyota needs the WDH and I also have air bags in the Toyota's rear coil springs. The Toyota has a V6 (235 hp) the Trailblazer has an inline 6 (291 hp) neither car will tow in OD (5th gear on the Toyota, 4th on the Trailblazer) but the Toyota will cruise at 65mph in 4th at about 9mpg. I doubt that the Trailblazer will tow above 60. We're going off for 3 days at Sebastian Inlet SP this week using the Trailblazer so I'll have a better report then. I'll check the gas mileage. Also the Toyota is much more comfortable than the Tblazer. It just seems smoother and steadier at highway speeds.

One more time. This time rigged to the Trailblazer w/o the WDH. Full water tank, full fuel tank, empty waste tanks. Three average weight people in the truck.

Front Axle 2340
Rear Axle 3420
Trailer Axle 3340

Gained another 800lbs???

MPG was 11.5 on a 2.5 hour (one way) trip over basically flat roads at 60mph or less.

Disappointed.

There is DRY WEIGHT.....and DRY SHIP WEIGHT. Dry Ship weight is what the unit weighs as the dealer recieves it from the manfuacture.

I weighed my 23BHD when I got it and it matched the sticker within a couple pounds (around 3800). Loaded, I'm exactly 4100.

The single axle units come pretty darn close to the what the axle is rated for. I would be concerned about how much stuff I put in those units...AND MORE ABOUT USING A WDH. WDH will put even more weight on the trailer axle, which is difficult to calculate and could be a cause for some of these issues about bending axles. A scale is the best bet.

I have weighed our 2010 19ERD at a commercial scales: hitch 510, axle 3250. The Visa was packed ready to travel, full propane, no water in tank (but I do carry 4 gallons in water bottles beside bed), and Visa spare is in back of tow vehicle instead of under Visa bed. I don't want to dial in a lot of weight re-redistribution with my Equalizer hitch spring bars or the Visa axle will get even closer to the 3500 lb spec, so I chose to put Airlift 1000 air bags on the Pilot rear axle. With the air bags, I can keep the Pilot level whatever the Equalizer's weight distrubition is set at.
