Default Generator for my Amerilite

My wife and I are planning an extended vacation in our 21MB LE and are considering purchasing a portable generator in case we need to stay in a location without power. I need one that will power the single air conditioner only. I'm willing to turn the air off if we need to use the microwave, etc. It also has to be lightweight since we'll be loading and unloading it often. I need a reliable generator for the money but am not brand conscious. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have the same trailer. I bought the Yamaha EF2400isHC and found it to be the smallest reliable generator that will also run the air. I paid about $1300 from Wise Sales and got a free cover, free shipping, and no sales tax. One thing I like about the Yamaha is the fuel shutoff which allows me to run the carburator dry for storage. It is very quiet.

Any thoughts about one of those Chinese made generators? I've read rave reviews of Hondas and Yamahas but the prices give me sticker shock. This will only be used on rare occasions so I'm looking for a cheaper alternative.

My experience is you get what you pay for. If you ever want to sell your generator, you'll have no problem with a Yamaha or Honda. With the others, who knows?
You may have trouble getting service and parts for the others also. Buyers remorse is no longer an option for me.

Well, I grunted and fretted and and finally bought the Yamaha 2400. That thing is great! I hooked it up to my camper and turned on the air conditioner and went out to check on the generator. It wasn't straining at all and was very quietly doing its job. Next I turned on a 1,200 watt space heater along with the air and it handled that too. Then I fired up our 700 watt toaster oven and that finally made the generator speed up, but it still handled all of that at once without overloading. Apparently those Yamahas can handle a pretty significant overload. Of course I don't plan to load it like that in the future. I'll have to say this was a good decision and money well spent. By the way, I ordered it from Wise Sales and got a good deal and friendly service too. I'd recommend them to anyone else looking for a portable generator. Thanks for the recommendation and Happy Camping!
