Hot water tank plumbing

Hi,

I am brand new to RVing and this forum. I have a 2005 Gulfstream Crescendo.
The RV was not winterized and many of the water systems froze. I have replaced and repaired most of the frozen and broken lines and components.0 However, When i removed the hot tank to repair the tubing and replace the check valve I reinstalled it as it came out. The feedwater line with the check valve is plumbed to the top of the tank and the hot water exit is plumbed out the bottom. I cannot find anywhere that confirms this and the cryptic water flow diagram I found looks like it should be in the bottom and out the top. Can anyone confirm that?

I am also having black water syphon issues and I want to replace the line break check valve and need to know where it is located.

Any help is really appreciated.

Generally, water does go into the HW tank at the bottom and out of the top. Confirm by getting the manual for your model. They are usually easy to find online.

I reviewed the manual I was able to download but the description is vague at best. The generic line drawing does show a lower entry point. I was just hoping to confirm before I had the remove the tank again and experiment.

The cold water inlet to the heater is on the bottom of the tank so the tank drained through the cold water inlet via the low point drain. The point in sharing this is that RV systems (especially electric and plumbing) are more complicated than most houses so If something seems strange don't panic and think it through.

FYI On HWT with both fittings on top, the Cold has an Internal tube that dumps the cold into the bottom of the tank so that cold does not mix w/ hot leaving the tank. Malfunction of that internal tube will cause cold water out issues.
