Default Kwikee Electric step problem

I have a 2004 Gulf Stream Sunvoyager. I have had problems with the electric step since the beginning. On my first trip I was going through Birmingham and a trucker blew his horn and pointed down at my MH. I though it was a flat tire it ended up being the step out. I checked the fuses and circut breakers , all were OK. So I continued on to my stop for the night, when I got there the step was back in and they worked fine again. Now it was almost a year before they acted up again, I called Kwickee and they told me to check the ground wire from the door switch. Well as far as I can check it appears OK. There is a lot of foam around the step and it is hard to see too much without cutting the foam away. this past week end they acted up again, several times. When I got it home again all is well. I talked to another with a similar problem and he said Kwickee replaced the controller and that solved his problem which was same as mine. Has any of the others on this forum had a similar problem and if so what did you do to correct it.

Loose grounds and wiring are a major factor in intermitant step operation. You may have to cut away some of the foam insulation to gain access. If the wiring and grounds are clean and tight then when the steps are not operating properly is the only time that you can diagnose as to the reason. It could come down to a bad controller but usually once the wiring is correct they either work or not. Good luck.

I have a different brand step, but ran into a problem where they wouldn't retract. After talking to tech support and making sure the motor was OK I laid out $67.00 for a new controller. It still didn't work. Then, a friend suggested checking out the magnet on the door. It had fallen out of the plastic holder. If you can round up a magnet try holding it next to the little plastic goody the magnet is near and see if it makes the steps operate.
Good luck!

Default Talked to Kwikee

I talked to Kwikee and they told me to check the ground wire. so I ran another one straight to the frame and now if it acts up I do know for sure it is not the ground. These things that only act up at times drives me nuts.
