Default IH 4200 Fuel Tank Problems - Rust.

Not long ago, I was warned that IH had put out a notice of low sulfur fuel causing rust in mild steel fuel tanks of which we all have I am sure. I have notices rust around my filler, so I got a price on a new aluminum fuel tank. My IH dealer just advised that an aluminum one which is what they order on all of their vehicles is 2506440C93 FUEL TANK $1.342.88. Does not include freight or installation. Glad my old one came with only one tank?

I have owned boats, cars, trucks, airplanes, scooters, houses, a company etc. I have never owned any thing with as many problems and such a low reliability factor as this SN. If the pallet nailing systems I sold were like this, I would have been out years ago.

Also I know that replacement tanks in my last boat would have cost less that half this amount and that was for two fuel tanks of 100 gallons each and a holding tank of 50 gallons in aluminum. They do not have plastic ones like in our cars.

I'm betting my Good Sam Extended Warranty will not pay a nickel on this.

So heads up folks. Best to all.

Not surprised, I am in the storage tank business. We are find alot of rust issues with the new diesel fuels in above and underground steel tanks. So just make sure you by Diesel from a distributor who has filters on their fuel pump.

I checked mine today and neither tank has rust yet. It might help that I am using fuel additive with every fuel stop. Crossing my fingers that this does not become an issue!

ps: here is a pic of the Nova in Arizona a couple of weeks ago.

I had the same problem. On mine (2009 6373) it was just the filler necks, they are steel but the tanks are not (or at least they are lined). So International put liners in the filler necks under warranty. I am also now running fuel treatment with every fillup to avoid algae, etc.

FYI - Mine is FOR SALE at I-35 RV in Denton TX. (7,000 miles w /AirRide and satellite, $120k) I moved up to a Showhauler on a Freightliner chassis.

Nice Rig. I will double check the rim of the filler. My SN is out of warranty, not that Goofstream did much during it. I did not start out using an additive until I was told by an old mechanic about what he was seeing and that an extra lubricant for the injectors would help a lot.

Does any one know the pipe size of the filler neck. I want to get a locking cap. When last at IH over 50 gallons of fuel was siphoned out. I believe the size if 2 1/4 npt.

When you get more info on lockable caps and where they can be obtained, would you please pass it on to the Forum at the cost of fuel, it only makes "Cents". Thanks
