Default Gas furnace heat

Does anyone know if it is safe to use the propane gas furnace while on the road? I tested the system by running the diesel engine and turned the furnace on without the generator. It put out heat and the blower must be a 12v. It is cold here in Delaware and we are leaving Jan 4 to the south.

It is not reccomended for whatever reason but I have done it a few times. I find that you can't get the coach really warm, going down the road 60 to 70 MPH suck the heat right out of the coach.c

If you start it before you take off down the road it usually will work. But the wind can mess with the flame while driving and sometimes they will cut off and then try and restart over and over without success. They have to have a nice blue flame and the wind can cause most flame sensors to shut them off. I also noticed doing that - that the blower can eat up battery juice faster than the alternator can recharge the batteries....and some coaches don't charge the batteries off the alternator. S

I have used one of our gas furnaces many times with no problem. With that being said, we use the one that is mounted/vented on the passenger side of the coach. We tried one time to use the furnace mounted/vented on the drivers side and we found out the when we passed or drove beside a large vehicle such as a semi truck/trailer rig, it would flame out and reignite with a loud "bang". I guess it was because of the wind vacuum from the large rig.

Never had any problems at all with the passenger side furnace. We also use the dash heat in the winter at the same time.

LOL! Yes you can use the furnace. If you don't there is no way you can heat up that big coach with the dash heater. If you stop and thing about using the furnace while driving down the road is no different then being at a RV park with a blizzard blowing out side. The furnace should not turn off because of wind. The furnace is located right under the refrigerator on my coach. We use ours all the time in the winter months while driving and the batteries should hold up just fine, unless you have bad batteries.

Have been using the furnace when driving in winter for 3 years...more than 15K winter miles...have never had a problem.
