Default 2006 Tourmaster water heater wiring

Hello All,

I have read various threads on water heater wiring and have a remaining question.

I am trying to chase a bug on my 2006 Tourmaster electric water heater problem (The gas side works fine).

I am not getting any voltage at the on/off switch at the outside service panel. I do register 120v on both sides of the inside switch (and the red light comes on). Do any of y'all know if the wire runs directly from the inside switch to the water heater? Or does the power get routed thru some other relay or component or fuse?

Any light that y'all can shed on this (or a schematic for the 2006 Tourmaster) would be most appreciated.

Regards,
Richard

P.S. The water heater is a Suburban SW10DE. I have the service manual for the water heater itself.

Richard,

Since you have the manual for your Suburban SW10 DE heater, look on page 4 where it shows the wiring for a 'typical' 120 volt installation. There is a thermostat shown that also has a circuit breaker function for over temperature conditions that might need to be reset. Look on page 6 for this t-stat reset description...

Thanks Chuck.

The power actually never reaches the tstat.

Here is the flow as I know it:

1: Fuse panel
2: Switch inside coach (with the little red light)
2a: Junction box on outside of the water heater
3: Service switch on outside panel
4: ECO
5: tstat
6: electrical element

I have 120 leaving #2, but no power at #3.

I am wondering if there is another (?) between #2 and #3, or if I have a shorted out wire?

Regards,
Richard

Default Bug found

In the light of the day I have been able to find the problem. There is a junction box on the outside of the water heater that receives the input from the cabin switch that connects to the water heater wiring.

The hot side had grounded out and fried. I trimmed the wires and made fresh connections.

We are heating water with electric again!

I update the previous post with a step 2a in the flow.
