kitchen drain/black tank

I'm distressed and disgusted to learn that my kitchen sink drains into the black tank, by design according to the warranty department. Can't be healthy to have the possibility of the toilet backing up into the kitchen sink, which mine has. Anyone have any personal experience with this? or with getting it changed? My passenger side bathroom sink also drains into the black tank.
