Default Slideout misadventure 2005 bt crui

Was Boondocked at a remote site last weekend. Something fell into the path of our slide out. Cleared the obstacle, but slideout would no longer move. Checked every fuse etc could find nothing. There is an access panel in a compartment under the slideout. Took me awhile to get it out. I looked for a place to use my socket wrench to retract the slideout. Nothing. Almost gave up until I noticed a small shaft in a tight spot with a hole in it big enough to slide a medium sized Allen wrench. I used that to turn the shaft about a half turn at time, and at first noticed no movement in the gear. Then to my great joy I saw the smallest movement in the gear that operates the slideout. Turning the shaft worked slowly, but eventually it retracted the slideout to our great relief. Seems like an inconvenient manual system, but eventually managed to find it, and make it work after about two hours lying flat on my back looking up. Of course, now that I have done it once, it would go much faster if I ever have to do it again. Hopefully never, but I thought this might be helpful info to someone who may find themselves in the same situation.

(Some?) systems recommend flex shaft and allen head bits using battery drill= best practices/ fitted in the driveway for both procedure and tools required. My slide hydraulics motor quit (brushes worn out, 23yo rig), and I had to use emergency hand pump, but had practiced before.

Discovered later that shaft I worked with actually had a bolt head on the far end that you can’t see from the front. Not sure of the size, but I think it might have been installed with the wrong end out of sight. Mine is a gear on a track system. A ratchet wrench would work, but would have to figure out the size.
