Default Fuel cap notification

Hi, I'm a new GS owner, purchased a 2004 BTCruiser a month ago in Texas, on my way back to California. Yesterday while driving, heard a "bong" and saw on the dashboard "check fuel cap". Stopped immediately, opened and screwed the brand new cape back in, numerous times, but the message hasn't gone off. I drove on and am in Laughlin. Have taken the cap on and off several times, but the message still remains. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong, or should I take it to Camping World? Thanks for any input.
