Default Indentifying the model year of a SuperNova

Can anyone tell me how to confirm or identify the model year in the SuperNova VIN or GS Serial Numbering scheme? I know the 8th digit from the end of the chassis VIN tells you the model year of the chassis. In my case its a 9 or 2009 model year.

It's not unusual for a chassis model year to be one year behind a finished motorhome's model year. Two years is unusual, but not unheard of, especially since you have a "2011" and we are still early in 2010.

As far as state DMV titling goes, the motorhome manufacturer's model year should be what is on the title.

Your on to my concern.....was I sold a new 2010 at 2011 prices? Coach has a manufacture date on data plate of 10/22/09. Gulfstream states it is a new 2011 of which there are only two made. Awful early in the fiscal year or late in the calendar year to begin a new model year.

In my opinion, it's deceptive and nuts to call a coach made in October 2009 a 2011 model. Are you getting this from Gulf Stream or from a dealer? You should have received a "Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin" in the paperwork when you purchased it. That document will list the official model year.

I hope this helps. The SuperNova has been a year ahead since its inception. I ordered my "2008" in February of 2007 and I have one of the originals. I received it in late May of 2007. The chassis manufacturing date was February 2, 2007. These things were introduced in late 2006 and there was never a 2007 model year that I can find.

All the paperwork and title show mine as a 2008. Using your VIN identification check, mine is shown to be a 2008 chassis.

Having said all that, it makes perfect sense to me that a coach built at this time would be a 2011. If your title and paperwork say 2011, that is, indeed, what you have.

I hope this helps with your question.

My SuperNova was manufactured in June '08 as an '09 model. The chassis is an '09 model as well. So, it is possible to have one made early in the year that is classified as a next year model.

I've never heard of any regulations that require a manufacturer to limit the model year of something within a particular time frame. I'm purely guessing here, but wonder that with the issues they had with getting the new 4300 chassis, they missed their window of opportunity for 2010 models and just decided to go with 2011's.

I'll say this, you've got the latest model out there from any of us!

Spoke at length this afternoon with Sales at Gulfstream. Ironically I rec'd my Statements of Vehicle Origin (chassis and coach) today as well. The documentation all checks out, matching the dates on the door jamb stickers. The story on my coach goes like this..... The unit was inducted to the assembly line on 8 Oct 2009 and was completed with exception of hold outs (not all parts available at this time) on 22 Oct 2009. This is the date of manufacture shown on the door jam sticker from GS that includes the GS serial number. The assembly completion date was 3 Dec 2009 (after recpt of hold out parts). They state this is routinely done to keep the assembly line moving and to finish the coach off of the assembly line. The December date is no where to be found on the vehicle. As an available coach it was "ordered" by my dealer, East Coast RVs in mid Feb (not on my behalf) and delivered to them on 5 March. We took delivery on 27 March. Apparently there are no regulations that govern when a manufacturer rolls the model year to the next year. Its done at their discretion. Kind of a weird feeling knowing that I own a "new" 2011 coach that has a chassis that was manufactured in April of 2008 and has a DOM of Oct 2009 that really didn't get finished until Dec 2009. Like said, as long as the title and/or vehicle origination paperwork says its a 2011, its a 2011 and I own it.
