Although chat rooms are nice for some communication for some people. I usually am busy most of the time, retired don't know why I am so busy, that scheduled times for most things don't work for me.
That is why I like forums like this that allow me when I have a few minutes to check the posts. Also, discussed problems /solutions just seem to be viewed by many more thru posts than a "chat" room format, thus helping more and getting more viewpoints/input.
Will I participate?? I really don't know, if I have a few minutes at the time it will be okay and I probably would, maybe. But it is not on my high priority list.
Schedules of anything make me think I am working, I retired to get away from schedules and the many meetings that I had to attend daily.
For those that like chat rooms and scheduled times, it is available, have fun.
Well that's my opinion, Just like other things, everybody's got one.

Ron, Thank You for your thoughts, you are right about schedules and I basically feel the same. Chat is another vehicle to transmit ideas and it is more personal in real time. You would be surprised at how quickly a friendship can be created.
