My maiden voyage has been done and completed im my 1989 Sunsport. It towed my race car really well. I have no speedo though. I know from taking the dash out and remaking it that when the back of the speedo is turned, the speedo needle moves. I also know that its a pain to get the cable back on once the dash is in. However, I feel confident that the cable is on correctly.
There is a 'thing' spliced in to the cable in the engine bay. what is this thing?
The needle doesn't move at all not even a judder.

Thank you Ronald. Unfortunately I am in UK and there aren't many companies that will ship out to us at this present time.

If 1989 old enough to still have mechanical speedo and spinning cable vs electronic? If so, find cable on transmission, disconnect and pull center core out? Likely a universal replacement core part that you cut to length, then grease well and reinstall? Maybe youtube can help?

At minimum, you will learn what the cable ends look like and can measure length, so you recognize as you shop online? Worst case, you find cable is fine, grease it and reinstall, and then go to the dash end to search for the problem? Maybe a Previous Owner (PO) disconnected to keep mileage down?

Thanks THenne. I know that the dash end is connected as I have had all that out. As previously said, There is a bit halfway along, which I think is for the cruise control, That I suspect is broken. I will investigate further when I can.
