The original door lock on my 2005 5230 is hard to open if the door is not shut very gently. Even then it can be too difficult for my wife to deal with. Can I do anything to fix it. For example, I am thinking of removing the three inside screws, and seeing whether I can get at the working parts to lubricate them. I am considering replacement, but do not see a brand name or number anywhere. The door jamb hardware looks like it is attached in such a way that any replacement would require screws placed either exactly where they are, or wider apart. Anything less goes into an opening with nothing to hold screws. Thanks for any suggestions.

If any further trouble, replace assembly, as many have issues w/ snapping the bolt and then locked in, unable to retract. On my2000, my old chrome paddle lock bolt snapped in 2017 just 5-minutes after I replaced the separate deadbolt mounted above paddle lock... go figure.

Now my newer locks, I keep well lubed w/ silicone spray and close gently and have to apply slight pressure to door to compress gasket to operate key or paddle easily. From inside, have to pull on door slightly to make either lock work easily.

Still using the old lock. Now that I lined up the strike plate with it, the lock works ok. I do have to close the door gently, and after driving somewhere I apply pressure on the door for easier opening. The deadbolt can be locked and unlocked from inside. However, I can’t get it to move using the key outside, so the dead bolt doesn’t get used. Looks like a replacement with the right screw holes and location of the dead bolt in relation to the current strike plate runs several hundred dollars. The cost is not necessarily prohibitive, but since it’s still working ok I haven’t needed to change it out.
