Members discussed the challenges of finding replacement parts for a 1989 Sunsports awning, especially from the UK. The original poster identified their awning as an A&E Systems model, which is a Dometic product. Experienced RVers confirmed that while mechanical parts like the spring-loaded leg levers can sometimes be sourced online, locating original or matching fabric—especially with specific color patterns like blue, white, and burgundy stripes—is much harder. Most modern replacements...

My 1989 Sunsports awning is needing a bit of repair. Are there parts available for an awning of this age? I assume that it was fitted from new. I am in UK so might be a mission to get parts.
Do you know the awning brand? Dometic made quite a few styles, but other vendors are also in this product category such as Lippert/Solera, and Carefree. Even without a specific model number, the brand will be helpful...
Dometic: A very popular and widely recognized brand that offers a wide range of awnings for RVs.
Solera: A brand from Lippert, known for its awnings and accessories, including slide-out toppers and patio awnings.
Carefree of Colorado: Has a long history of manufacturing RV awnings and accessories.
Thule: A Swedish company that makes a variety of awnings, including wall-mounted manual awnings.
ShadePro: A long-standing company that provides RV awning fabric replacements and accessories.
RecPro: Offers various RV awnings, and is also a provider of awning materials like vinyl fabric.
Aleko: Offers a range of awnings for homes and RVs in various styles and colors.
I don't know the brand Chuck. It is the type that has the 'roll' on the outer edge of the awning and not against the body of the RV unlike the one on my former race box.
Theres a little 'swivel' on the end of the tube that you pull down and then unroll the awning from the RV and the roll swings out on arms. Theres two 'lever catches' one on each arm that you lift up to extend the arm length. One of these catches is broken.
Yes, A & E is a known volume model made by Dometic, a quality manufacturer of RV awnings. Your description of the part needed is very helpful. What is the overall length of the awning as that may help determine the actual model...but best guess is an 8500.
Below the drawing is a link to an on-line parts listing. I do not see any separate callout for the little direction reversing lever you describe, just that it is part of the "end cap"

Hi again. Its not the reversing lever. It is a latch on the main 'leg' that has a pin that locks the leg at the length you require. It is a spring loaded 'handle" I think I have found them online, just waiting for confirmation.
It will also need a new fabric which is a shame as I like the one on it. I can't find that particular one to replace it with. Thats not a major issue right now though. More important things to sort out!!!
I have managed to find the levers for the main 'legs'. I would like to know if theres any chance of the original fabric being available. It has a wide blue stripe at the top then a wide white stripe and a wide red stripe at the bottom with the pelmet bit. I have done as much research as I can but nothing comes up.
Most replacement fabric choice like this one from ShadePro are single color broad stripes (or smoothly variegated)
Also this subtle edge treatment is about a scalloped as they get from contemporary sources. Good luck in your search. By the way, red is a bit rare a color to find, but 'burgundy' is quite common.
Sorry I didn’t see UK . I just got a 20’ awning and tube on Facebook, used my orrigonal arms . found out it was brand new with led light strip and electric not the color I would have liked but I stole it $150. But I was looking for almost 2 years .
