Members tackled persistent battery drain and relay issues on a 1989 Gulfstream 8272 SP, focusing on the coach/chassis solenoids and entry step switch panel. The original poster replaced a solenoid, but the chassis indicator light stayed on and the relay wouldn’t unlatch, suggesting a control board or switch fault rather than a relay problem. Experienced RVers provided wiring diagrams, troubleshooting steps, and confirmed that these vintage latching solenoids require momentary... More...
I have the same issue with my 1999 Gulfstream Sun Voyager. And have been looking for a thread that could explain fixing the issue. I will read through thoroughly and Post up my results.

I have , at last, driven the RV. I noticed that I have to push the coach switch to on at the steps to get power to the driving controls, ignition etc and, once the engine has fired up both the chassis and coach lights are on at the steps. Surely this is incorrect.
Are there any wiring diagrams for the main battery terminals positions?

I have never found any diagrams specific to your year/model coach. Is yout rig a 30 amp shore power connection, or is it a 50 amp? The images in your early posts on this thread may indicate it to be a 30 amp unit...if so the attached two diagrams may be generic, if not actually useful... ;)

You have yet to answer if your rig is a 30 amp shore connection or the 50 amp variety... Any detail on what you are dealing with specifically is a help in researching potential solutions.

I'm pretty sure that neither one of the drawings is exactly like your older coach -- just presented them to give examples of how such wiring has been done on other GS coaches...

Hopefully they will give you some ideas and a place to start your inspection/evaluation of your present issues.

Hi again. My 1989 gulfstream 8272 sp has 3 big relays/ solenoids under the hood. One of them had the main battery terminals linked out so the battery lead was removed from the battery to stop it going flat. It was the top left one that was linked. The two top solenoids have coach/ chassis printed on them.
When the battery lead is put back on the battery, the right hand light (chassis) comes on on the switch panel at the entry steps. I have replaced the solenoid as I thought it was faulty, however, its made no difference. It seems as if its always getting power from the switch panel. Are these switch panels available?
Look for pictures of LATCHING SOLENOID, and if it matches with the extra plunger area, it only required Momentary power to latch ON, and momentary reverse polarity to turn off, Someone may have installed wrong rocker switch vs spring loaded momentary rocker? At switch panel, you replace each individual switch vs assembly. P.s. also easy to see your WHITE wire not on White terminal?

Thanks for the reply THenne1713. The pic that you're referring to is a grey wire which is on the correct terminal. The solenoids have wiring colours for both 'coach' and 'chassis', the solenoid in question has the 'red' wiring colours faded out.
