I have removed the air con unit from the roof of my 1989 sunsport. There are 2 white wires, 1 green and 1 orange wire that go across the opening. I have fitted a rooflight in the opening and need to know what the wires do before I refit the ceiling on that part of the roof.

Wake,

It is going to be really difficult to know what the wires are for from just the description above. Do the white wires have test inked onto them with unique identifiers like later coaches do? What gauge are they?

Just from the colors. it is likely the white wires are ground connections for some 12 volt circuits (perhaps interior lights...) and the orange wire on some units provides power to the monitor panel. The green wire could go to the power awning as it does in some later coaches -- but I really do not have any idea why any of these wires cross the ceiling vent opening as you describe...

Where did you get power for the roof light you added???

Hi again Chuck. Thank you for the reply.
There is no power to the roof light. Its a manually opening one. What doesn't make any sense is that the green cable is on the kitchen side and the orange cable the other side but they dont go right across. I did also take the ceiling lights down as they were rusty so need replacing. Maybe one of them went to there with a white and the other done something to the aircon. It is also possible, as you say, that the orange fed the monitor panel even though that has never worked even before I removed the aircon unit. I can easily remove the monitor panel to check that.

What I would do is use a wire piercing probe on the insulated wires crossing this space without disconnect any of them. First see if any have voltage relative to system ground, and if no voltage present then try to measure continuity to ground (system battery removed, of course.)

Next, check continuity from each pierced wire to any of the terminals in your load center that are the same color and gauge...that won't be an easy measurement to make but will be conclusive.

As i mentioned earlier in other threads, I have not found a wiring diagram specific to your early coach, but this generic one may be useful:
