LED Headlight bulbs for the Ford

Right before we went on our last trip I decided I couldn't live with the amount of available light put out by the stock Ford headlights so I decided I would give the cheap LED drop ins a try.

The problem with the newer Fords is they use a single H13 bulb for high/low. In LED world that means (currently) you can't have high and low beams simultaneously. You could try the Silverstars to maintain the high/low combo, but the color and output of the LEDs just on low, in my opinion, make them a better choice.

I'm sure a complete headlight assembly with reflectors designed for LED would be better, but last I looks those run about $200 each. The Amazon drop in bulbs set me back $30 for the pair!

A note on the swap out. Ford in their wisdom used a 8mm head on the top bolt, but used 7mm on the near blind ones under the headlight assembly. Once I figured that out I sat there cussing some engineer who I never met for longer than it took me to drop both bulbs in and button it back up.

We added LED to our station wagon. Installed them in the halogen housing they work great. The rub is that starting in 2024 Virginia state safety inspection doesn’t allow LED in non LED housings. Had to revert back.
