Member Title: dash board radio
An RVer with a 1989 Sunsport discovered their dashboard radio was not wired and questioned whether this was standard and if the overhead and rear speakers should be powered from the dash. Other members confirmed that, in similar models like the 1998 Gulfstream Scenic Cruiser, the dash stereo is indeed connected to ceiling speakers and typically powered by both the ignition and a dash switch for campground use.

Experienced members suggested that the missing wiring harness might be tucked...

1989 Sunsport. I have removed the radio from the dash board today to figure out why its not working. No surprise, its not even wired up. I can't see any wires that would have gone to it. Was this a standard fitment? If so, there should be wires for Perm 12v, ign 12v ground and speaker wires. There are speakers in the overhead console above the driver compartment and in the very rear compartment above the bed. Should these be powered from a radio in the dash console?

I have a 1998 Gulfstream Scenic Cruiser, and yes, the dash stereo is connected to the ceiling speakers! It is powered by the ignition key like a car, and also powered by a switch on the dash for when you are at campground!

Harness tucked under carpet, or dropped below floorboard and hanging underneath?

Is yours a P30 chassis? If so I picked up the wiring diagrams for it and that worked well and matched what I had behind the dash

Hi Mike. Yes it is and I've now got it sorted out thank you. Presumably you have the same vehicle here in UK? Where are you located please? Do you have to switch your chassis battery on at the step entry to start the engine? Thank you.

Oh mine is the same age but has been pretty messed about with regards to wiring. No battery cut off at all. All done on the ignition. I am in the steel city.
I’m trying to find images of vehicles with more original wiring so I can understand what’s been done to mine.

They all seem to have been 'messed with'. Chuck on here is very knowledgable and has helped me no end. I think the main part of mine is as it should be but, I have to turn the chassis battery on at the step switch to get power to the ignition. I have been told that this is correct although Im not sure. once the ignition is switched on the coach batteries also then become live. I can switch the coach batteries on at the steps as well for when using the coach section alone.
I have had several months of refurbing my interior but need the seats re-upholstering to make it really nice. The front captains chairs are awful!!!
