Outside compartment door gaskets

Had a leak in one of my outside compartment doors. Water was coming thru the gasket on the top. The split where the gasket ends meet was on the top, I took off gasket and put the split on the bottom which solved the problem but looking at the other doors the split is on the top. Does anyone know which way is correct?

The way that doesn't leak!!!!
Mine are on the bottom!

Thanks Earl. I thought the split should be on the bottom but when I looked at the other compartments they were all on the top. Anyway it doesn't leak now. thanks
