Members are weighing the benefits and drawbacks of replacing a traditional water heater with a tankless model in RVs, specifically referencing a 2021 24rbs cabin cruiser. One member who made the switch reports significant issues when boondocking, such as the need for high water flow to trigger hot water, leading to cold showers and challenges with dishwashing due to limited water and grey tank capacity. These problems disappear when connected to city water, but off-grid use remains...

Wanting to exchange the water heater to a tankless. Anyone know the best tankless water heater to get. I got a 2021 24rbs cabin cruiser. TIA

I did that on our 2008 Crescendo and now have a very unhappy wife. I think the big problem is to get hot water there has to be considerable flow and the limited water supply and grey water capacity is a problem when boon docking. She takes a "Navy" cold shower even though the water heater is about 8 feet from the shower. Dish washing is another problem. When we are hooked up to city supply, no problem.

We have a site and don't travel or do boondocking. I did find the information I needed. Won't happen immediately though.

I too am disappointed with between turning on the hot water and if pausing it, waiting for it to become hot again. I could put in a reservoir but that takes up more space.

I thought about upgrading to an On Demand Water Heater. But a friend that did change theirs said that there were many issues with them. He listed them and the top one was his old 6 gallon WH had both an electric element and a propane burner. His On demand only uses gas. He was able to use camp ground power for water heat and now he misses that. Too much propane.

Not for me.
