I have a problem with my Gulf Stream. Even if I start or not the engine, when I turn the switch on, after about 10 minutes, the transmission shift automatically to the 4th speed!
It' a Gulfstream motor home 1994 with a 6 speeds Allison transmission and 250 cummins engine.
What's the problem, could you help me?
Thank you

I would take it to a transmission repair shop before you do more damage. It might be something like a simple adjustment.
Good luck!

Hello Joe,

Just wondering if you found the problem with your transmission. Mine just started "acing up". Some of the issues are similar to what you discribed in your post; additionally, if I put the transmission in R it slips out of gear after about two seconds. So far I have no idea what is causing these problems.

Thank you.

Hey Jim,

I had an issue with mine this past year. We were driving down the freeway and it would slip between 4th and 5th. Then, after we pulled over to check on this at a truck stop, it hiccupped trying to go into reverse and also off the start from 1st to 2nd.

We found out that the wiring harness for the transmission got hot because of an exhaust leak between the turbo and the muffler. One of the two 12V power leads had melted and that caused the erratic behavior.

Hope this helps you troubleshoot. May not be a bad idea to check on the integrity of your harness. My wires were just stuffed into a loom without any other protection.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Phil

Phil,

Thank you for the input. I'll have to crawl around underneath and see how stuff looks. If nothing looks obvious I may have to try to find a professional that knows more than me.

Again, thank you for the information.

You got it. That harness was pretty shocking actually....just a bunch of small wires stuff into the plastic loom. Wrapped everything in anti-friction tape and stuffed it all back in. I paid to have mine done. You shouldn't have to because just look how daunting this is. lol
